Future Planet Capital is a rapidly expanding venture capital firm with operations in the UK, US and Australasia. Their seed fund UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund (UKI2S) nurtures innovative businesses, to leverage private investment and grow jobs, recycling profits from the realisation of our investments into the next generation of impactful UK companies. The team invest in innovations which leverage the UK’s publicly funded science and knowledge base, particularly in engineering, biology, defence & security and clean growth, to make profit for the Fund and deliver economic gains emerging from UK’s public funding portfolio.
Responsibility
With an expanding fund, excellent deal flow and a portfolio showing strong potential, the fund is currently hiring an Investment Associate to join the business and work across areas such as due diligence, investment screening and working on transactions. You will get involved in origination and due diligence on early-stage investment opportunities across a wide range of technology businesses, and support companies post investment. The role will also include screening the pipeline at the earliest stages and meeting founders. You will need to stay abreast of key developments in major markets and be comfortable analysing markets and technologies that may fall outside your immediate scientific or engineering background. You will work closely with more experienced colleagues to gain experience of the investment process and progress your career.
The team invest across a number of sectors, but this position will have more of a focus and emphasis on Space Tech and include work on all related technologies and services covering both In Orbit as well as On Land and with areas such as:
- Propulsion
- Exploration
- Launch and Down Stream
- Software and Data Analytics
- Refuelling
- Materials
Desirable Experience & Skills
- Post graduate qualification in a scientific or engineering discipline, possibly to PhD level.
- Two years-experience in a consulting company, investment bank, technology transfer office, early-stage investment role or high growth potential early stage company.
- An understanding of early-stage R&D stages and timelines, technology development levels and familiar with broad concepts around IP, budgeting and team structures.
- Ideally, knowledge of sectors which complement our existing team: for example in cyber security, space, telecoms and defence.
- Strong research, analytical and quantitative skills
- Project management skills: an organised approach to dealing with a pipeline of multiple deals, reporting responsibilities and with time, a portfolio of investments to manage
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including the preparation of investment memorandums
- An ability to development and maintain effective relationships with scientists, entrepreneurs and the Fund’s public sector stakeholders.
