In 2018 we launched our first Future VC programme, a paid internship for 30 individuals drawn from a far wider demographic than is found in the VC industry. In 3.5 weeks, we received 850+ applicants who were. We’ve gone from strength to strength ever since.

Our Findings
The applicant demographic breakdown above was reflected very well in the final selection of interns, all of whom are now pursuing careers in VC or startups.
The demographic breakdown achieved demonstrated to us that focussed effort in advance of launching the programme translated very well into a diverse group of candidates.
In 2020, because of the unprecedented situation the world has been facing, Future VC quickly pivoted it’s programme to offer a series of online masterclasses and mentorship programs.
This resulted in a cohort of just under 500 people from 177 cities around the world. The feedback we received from candidates around the globe has been very positive and moving forward Future VC intends to continue offering a version of the programme to a global audience, alongside the internship programme.
Since 2022 we have returned, where possible to an in person internship programme.
A previous cohort was surveyed during the programme and we captured the following demographic information:
%
47% of the cohort identified as Women
%
49% identified as BAME
%
2% identified as LGBTQ+
%
20% were the first in their family to go to university
%
14% came from a family in receipt of social welfare
%
4% identified as having some form of disability
Future VC is proud of the progress and impact we’ve had to date, however we will continue to work on all aspects of our programme content, candidate attraction, fund participation and more to ensure that we continue to develop on top of the strong foundation we’ve built these past two years.
