About the Role

We’re looking for a Technology Specialist to join our Portfolio Success team and help build the ’technological’ resilience of our early stage fintech companies. Ideally based on the East Coast of the United States or in London, Anthemis is always searching for the best talent and we operate a ‘remote first’ strategy so can be flexible on location. As the resident Technology Specialist, you will be working directly with founders who we have invested in at a pre-seed or seed stage via our investment vehicles. You will harness your domain knowledge and experience working in technology to advise founders on their tech build, team and architecture. As part of the multi-disciplinary Portfolio Success team, you will also be contributing and collaborating on broader strategic initiatives and experiments to support the wider portfolio and enhance Anthemis’ value for the portfolio as they grow.

Core responsibilities

  • Providing strategic support to founders and CTOs – assisting portfolio companies through their growing pains and greenfield development. This could include:

– Advising on fintech startup technology strategy, processes and architecture
– Advising on engineering team build
– Interviewing CTOs, VP Engineering / Tech Lead candidates portfolio companies are hiring for

  • Working closely with our Product Lead to provide strategic support on product and process
  • Developing relevant technology-specific templates, resources & toolkits for portfolio companies
  • Cultivating Anthemis’ network of technology leads and advisors (across engineering and data science) within the portfolio
  • Building and maintaining relationships with technical advisors and agencies (e.g. dev shops) that can provide their services to the portfolio

Requirements

Experience we’re looking for

  • Overall, direct experience at startups and/or consulting startups
  • Experience leading a software engineering team
  • Practical knowledge of various tech stacks
  • Production experience in a variety of languages and domains
  • Experience architecting technology solutions from the ground up
  • Understanding in dealing with specific challenges faced by Technology Leads as well as non-technical founders
  • Enthusiasm for working in agile teams
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with portfolio companies
  • Ability to lead a community and connect individuals and groups to solve problems
  • Experience in managing different stakeholders’ expectations and senior management teams
